August Update
Long time, no update. I think I lost my desire to blog about my financial life. Everything is fine. The house is still on the market. We're getting tons of showings but no offers yet.
Our emergency fund is now over $17,000. We're almost to our goal! Of course if we do sell our house and build a new one then we'll use a good chunk of that money for a down payment on the new one and closing costs and realtor fees on our current one.
The tuition fund is now around $5000. We took about $2k out to put down on the new house (100% refundable if we don't move forward with the house). And we had to take money out to, wait for it, pay for tuition! C starts fall semester classes on the 22nd.
Otherwise we're still budgeting, still saving like crazy and still making the most of our money.
Oh, and we bought smartphones and upgraded our phone plan to a data plan on Saturday. C's phone had about 2 hours of battery life in it and both of ours were about 3 years old. So, we splurged and upgraded. Our cell phone bill will double from about $65/month to ~$125/month. That ~$60/month increase is small compared to the amount of money we're saving each month (at least $2000 between 401k, emergency savings, tuition, 529's, Christmas, short term, etc.) so we're both OK with splurging on this want each month.
OK, and with that I'll probably go radio silent again for a while. School starts soon for both C and the kids, we have house stuff on our minds and we're in control of our finances. Life is good.
